Alex Chapman is Director of Regulatory Affairs for Stericycle with 20 years of experience working with healthcare, commercial, and government organizations. Her work has included developing, managing, and supporting programs that drive regulatory compliance and sustainability.


While she has worked in a number of roles and industries, Alex’s work has primarily been in complex regulated environments with a focus on healthcare collaborating with generators, suppliers, industry organizations, and regulators to assess, design, enable, and enhance compliant and sustainable waste management processes and programs throughout the value chain.


Alex is the membership and special projects coordinator for the Healthcare Waste Institute and co-chair of the Stericycle Green Team. Alex is driven to help individuals and organizations reach their goals and create safe and sustainable environments for themselves, their employees, and the communities they serve.

Bob Spurgin

Bob Spurgin

Head of Healthcare Waste Institute

Bob Spurgin is the current Chair of the Healthcare Waste Institute and the nation’s leading authority on healthcare waste management. Over the past 30 years he has consulted with over 200 hospitals and health systems, and hundreds of waste service companies. He is an author of the EPA Guide for Infectious Waste and a contractor to the US Congress Office of Technology Assessment for their report to Congress. He’s been interviewd by CNN, PBS, ABC and spoken at numerous national and regional health care conferences.


He is a pioneer in efficient, comprehensive, integrated, management practices for healthcare facilities, including waste reduction and recycling programs, management systems, technology evaluations and environmental benefits that can be derived from best practice applications. He heads the Medical Waste Advisory Group on Linkedin which has over 3500 world-wide members.

Derrick Hutton

Derrick Hutton

Network Director of Support Services Hackensack Meridian Health

In April 2022, Derrick joined Hackensack Meridian as the Network Director of Environmental Services, overseeing that department for the system. He worked with various leaders at each of the campuses to harmonize the department’s standards. Because of his dedication  and leadership, Derrick’s role expanded shortly after, to Network Director of Support Services, where he now oversees EVS, Patient Transport, Linen, and Valet for the network HMH eleven campuses.


Derrick has a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) from the University of Arizona and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Strayer University. He has spent the past twelve years volunteering with the American College of Healthcare Executives - New Jersey, where he currently serves as President-Elect.
